A renewable energy certificate is worth what the registry behind it and the desk in front of it can prove. KMS works the whole chain for IREC and TIGR. We help develop the projects that create the certificates, register them and support issuance, then trade, broker and advise on the certificates for buyers and sellers on either side. Most consultants cover one part of that. KMS covers all of it.
IREC Standard
This is a standard for energy attribute tracking systems that can be easily implemented so that consumers in all regions of the world can have access to internationally recognized, tradable and reliable electricity attribute tracking certificates (RECs). We are a Participant and Registrant of IREC Standard. That status shortens the path from a renewable project to certificates a client can hold and use. KMS runs it from sourcing through to settlement. Please contact us today to develop an IREC project or sell IRECs or buy IRECs.
TIGRs (APX)
The Tradable Instrument for Global Renewables (TIGR) Registry is an online platform for tracking and trading RECs developed by APX. The Registry enables developers to generate, verify, and sell RECs. It allows buyers to source RECs anywhere in the world while managing all assets in a single online portal. KMS registers projects on TIGR, trades the certificates and brokers deals for clients on either side, so whichever side you are on the desk is the same. Please contact us today to develop a TIGRs project or sell TIGRs or buy TIGRs.
Buying, selling and trading
Holding a certificate is easy. Moving it at the right price is not. KMS sits in the market on both registries, so we buy IRECs and TIGRs for a buyer with a target to meet, sell them for a generator holding volume or broker the trade between two parties who would otherwise never find each other. You get a counterparty and a price, not a referral.
Advisory and training
Behind every trade is a decision. Which registry, which market, when to sell, what a certificate is actually worth. KMS advises on all of it. And where a client wants to run part of this in house, KMS trains the team to do it, from how the registries work to how certificates are issued and priced. The aim is not to keep you dependent on us. It is to make the strategy hold whether KMS runs it or you do.
One desk, the full chain
Most firms pick a lane. Development, brokerage or advisory. KMS works all of it on both IREC and TIGR, from the first feasibility check on a project to the final retirement of a certificate. Development, registration, issuance support, trading, brokerage, advisory and training, in one place.
Frequently asked questions
What is a renewable energy certificate (REC)?
A renewable energy certificate represents the environmental attributes of one megawatt hour of renewable electricity. It lets a buyer claim renewable power even when they cannot physically source it from the grid. IREC and TIGR are two of the registries that issue and track these certificates internationally.
What is the difference between IREC and TIGR?
Both are registries for tracking and trading renewable energy certificates across markets. The International REC Standard (IREC) is a widely used global standard, now under the I-TRACK Foundation, while TIGR is a registry run by APX, an Xpansiv company. They cover different markets and projects, so the right one depends on where a project sits and who will buy the certificates.
What does it mean that KMS is a Participant and Registrant of the IREC Standard?
It means KMS is registered with the IREC Standard to register renewable projects and request the issuance of IREC certificates, rather than relying entirely on another party. For a client, that shortens the path from a renewable project to tradable certificates in hand.
Can KMS buy and sell RECs, or only develop projects?
Both. KMS develops and registers REC projects and trades the certificates, buying IRECs and TIGRs for buyers with targets to meet and selling them for generators holding volume. KMS also brokers deals between parties on either side. Development and trading sit on the same desk.
Does KMS provide REC training and advisory?
Yes. KMS advises on registry choice, market timing and certificate pricing. It also trains client teams that want to manage RECs in house, covering how the registries work, how certificates are issued and how they are priced and traded.
