ICR (International Carbon Registry) Consulting & Project Development

Consulting and project development with the International Carbon Registry (ICR), from project design and quantification under ISO 14064-2 through registration and the issuance of ICR Carbon Credits.

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Iceland, the International Carbon Registry is a global organization dedicated to addressing the challenges of climate change. ICR is passionate about creating real, measurable impact and helping clients achieve their sustainability goals.

The International Carbon Registry provides electronic registration for climate projects and issuance ICR carbon credits (ICCs) to climate projects that conform to ICRs requirements and ISO 14064-2. In this way, ICCs represents high-integrity carbon credits from projects across the globe as they arise from internationally acknowledged standards and commonly agreed upon carbon principles.

What the International Carbon Registry is

The International Carbon Registry is a carbon crediting registry. The infrastructure that records a project, tracks its credits and issues them once the work is verified. Based in Iceland and launched in 2020, it is one of the newer registries, built around the ISO 14064-2 standard for quantifying and reporting emission reductions at project level. Credits issued through it are called ICR Carbon Credits, or ICCs. Validation and verification sit with accredited independent bodies, so the credits that result carry the third party scrutiny buyers expect.

What a registry does and why it matters

A registry is the system of record for the carbon market. It holds the serial numbers, stops the same credit being sold twice and retires a credit when it is used, which is what gives a buyer confidence the tonne they paid for is real and theirs alone. ICR positions its credits as high integrity, drawing on recognised standards and ISO 14064-2 rather than a closed in house method. For a project, the registry choice affects credibility, buyer access and cost. The same question comes up when weighing ICR against an established programme like Verra or Gold Standard, where the right fit depends on project type, location, cost and the buyers you are aiming at.

How KMS works with the International Carbon Registry

Kanaka Management Services (KMS Group) takes a project through registration with ICR end to end. Confirming eligibility against ICR requirements and ISO 14064-2, quantifying the reductions or removals, preparing the documentation, coordinating independent validation and verification, then registering the project and supporting issuance of ICCs. The MRV, remote sensing and field capability KMS applies under other standards carries straight across, the same depth we bring to Plan Vivo and the BioCarbon Standard and other registries, so a developer is not learning a new registry alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the International Carbon Registry (ICR)?

The International Carbon Registry is a carbon crediting registry founded in 2020 and based in Iceland. It provides electronic registration for climate projects and issues carbon credits, called ICR Carbon Credits or ICCs, to projects that meet its requirements and the ISO 14064-2 standard. It is one of the newer global carbon registries.

What are ICR Carbon Credits (ICCs)?

ICCs are the carbon credits issued through the International Carbon Registry. Each represents a verified tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent reduced or removed by a registered project. ICR presents them as high integrity credits because they are built on recognised carbon standards and the ISO 14064-2 project standard.

What is ISO 14064-2?

ISO 14064-2 is the international standard for quantifying, monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas reductions or removals at the project level. It sets out how to design a project, establish a baseline and measure the difference credibly. The International Carbon Registry uses it as the technical basis for the projects it registers.

How does ICR compare to Verra or Gold Standard?

All are carbon registries that record projects and issue credits. ICR is newer, based in Iceland and built around ISO 14064-2, while Verra and Gold Standard are larger and longer established. The right registry for a project depends on its type, location, cost and the buyers it targets.

How does KMS help with ICR projects?

KMS takes a project through ICR registration end to end. Checking eligibility against ICR requirements and ISO 14064-2, quantifying the reductions, preparing documentation, coordinating independent validation and verification, then registering the project and supporting issuance of ICCs. The same measurement and field expertise KMS uses under other standards applies here.
